OLDER PEOPLE'S FORUM

North Tyneside

The purpose of the Forum is to provide an effective voice for all older people in the Borough of North Tyneside, who are over 50 and retired, on issues which affect their quality of life, health and wellbeing.

Set up by by a group of older people who are concerned that decisions are being taken on issues which affect our  lives, such as local health, leisure and support services, environment, transport and policing  without consultation or real consideration of our needs.

Our aim is to be an effective voice for all older people in the borough and to speak up on their behalf.

We bring together older people and decision-makers through locality meetings, events and conferences, giving older people the opportunity to speak up for themselves. The Forum is also represented on various statutory groups relating to issues affecting the health and well-being of older people.

Our committee comprises 14 volunteers who work to inform and consult with as many older people as possible, by way of meetings, newsletters and leaflets. The Forum employs a part-time Development Worker and a part-time Admin Worker, funded through a grant from the Northern Rock Foundation.

Our membership is made up of individuals  who are over 50 and retired and groups which work with and support older people within the borough of North Tyneside.
